Money in Finland: Currency & Tipping

Finland is easy for spending money: it uses the euro, is almost entirely card-based, and has no pressure to tip. Here's the quick guide.

Currency

Finland uses the euro (€). You rarely need cash — cards (including contactless and mobile pay) are accepted almost everywhere, even for small purchases.

Cards and ATMs

Visa and Mastercard are universally accepted; Amex less so. ATMs ("Otto") are available if you want a little cash, but many visitors never use any.

Tipping

Tipping is not expected in Finland — service is included and staff are paid fairly. You can round up or leave a small tip for exceptional service, but it's entirely optional.
