Rovaniemi is compact and easy to get around. Most visitors manage perfectly without a car, especially if they book tours with hotel pickup.
Walking
The city centre is small and walkable — hotels, restaurants, shops and the Arktikum are all close together.
Local buses
Local buses connect the centre with Santa Claus Village (route 8) and the airport. It's an affordable way to reach the village independently.
Taxis
Taxis are available for the airport and around town. Pre-booking is wise in the busy December season.
Car hire
You only need a hire car if you plan to explore national parks or remote areas independently — and remember winter/studded tyres are mandatory from November to March. For tours, we include hotel pickup, so no car is needed.
