Falling asleep beneath the Northern Lights in a heated glass igloo is a Lapland bucket-list dream. Here's how they work near Rovaniemi and how to make the most of a stay.

What is a glass igloo?

A glass igloo (or aurora cabin) is a small cabin or dome with a thermal glass roof and walls, heated inside, so you can lie in a warm bed and watch the sky. Many have heated glass that stays clear of frost and snow.

Will you actually see the aurora from your igloo?

Sometimes — on clear, active nights, yes. But there are two catches: the aurora only appears when conditions align, and even a lovely igloo has a fixed view and some light around the resort. So an igloo is best for atmosphere and comfort, not as a guarantee.

The winning combination

Pair a glass igloo stay with a guided Northern Lights tour. Enjoy the igloo for the experience, and let your guide chase clear, dark skies on the nights the igloo view is clouded or the aurora is faint. This combination gives our guests the highest success rate.

What to expect

Igloos vary from simple domes to luxury suites with private saunas. Book early for December–February, dress warmly for stepping outside, and manage expectations — the aurora is wild and weather-dependent wherever you sleep.
