Ice floating is one of Lapland's most surreal experiences: you drift on your back in a frozen lake, kept warm and dry inside a buoyant thermal survival suit, gazing up at the Arctic sky — sometimes with the aurora overhead.
How does it work?
You put on a full-body dry survival suit that keeps you warm, dry and afloat. A hole is opened in the ice, and you slip in and float weightlessly. Despite the frozen surroundings, you stay perfectly comfortable.
What it feels like
Most guests describe deep calm — the silence, the weightlessness and the vast sky combine into something meditative. It's gentle enough for non-swimmers, as the suit does all the floating.
Ice floating under the aurora
Evening sessions on a clear, active night can put you floating directly beneath the Northern Lights — an unforgettable combination. For a dedicated aurora experience, pair it with a Northern Lights tour.
Good to know
Wear warm layers underneath, and follow your guide's safety instructions. Sessions are typically short (the floating part is 20–30 minutes) but memorable.
