Good news for visitors: English is spoken very widely in Finland, and language is almost never a barrier in Rovaniemi.
English in Finland
Finland has one of the highest levels of English proficiency in the world. Hotel staff, guides, restaurants, shops and younger people almost all speak excellent English. Signs and menus are often bilingual.
The official languages
Finnish is the main language (Swedish is the second official language, and Sami languages are spoken in the north). Learning a couple of Finnish words is appreciated but not needed.
