April is spring in Lapland: bright, sunny days, deep lingering snow and much milder temperatures than midwinter — a fantastic, underrated time to visit Rovaniemi.
Weather & light
Days are long and bright (12+ hours of light by late April), with temperatures around -5 to +5°C — comfortable for full days outdoors. Snow is still deep and reliable.
Activities
April has some of the best conditions of the year for husky sledding, snowmobiling, reindeer safaris and snowshoeing, all in glorious sunshine.
Late-season aurora
Early April still has dark enough nights for the Northern Lights — see our April aurora guide. By late April the season winds down.
Value
Prices are lower than the December peak, and it's quieter — great for families and photographers.
