November is Rovaniemi's quiet early-winter month: snow settles in, the nights grow very long, and Christmas prices haven't kicked in yet. It's a great-value time to visit — with a few things to keep in mind.
Weather and snow
Temperatures fall to roughly -5 to -15°C, and snow usually establishes through the month, building the classic white landscape. By late November most winter activities are running.
Northern Lights
November has 15–18 hours of darkness, so aurora windows are long. The main variable is cloud — November can be cloudier than the crisp months around it — so a mobile guided tour that chases clear skies really pays off.
Why visit in November
- Lower prices and fewer crowds than December.
- Fresh snow and full Christmas decorations appearing at Santa Claus Village.
- Early husky, reindeer and snowmobile season.
Tips
Give yourself several nights to beat the cloud, and pack warm layers (see our packing list).
