Getting from Rovaniemi to Saariselkä and Ivalo

Rovaniemi is the gateway to Finnish Lapland, but many travellers continue north to the fells of Saariselkä and the village of Ivalo for quieter skies, ski slopes and some of the darkest aurora nights in Europe. The most comfortable way to make the journey — especially with family, luggage or ski gear — is a private door-to-door transfer.

Both destinations sit due north of Rovaniemi along the E75 (the "Arctic Road"). Rovaniemi to Saariselkä is about 260 km and Rovaniemi to Ivalo about 240 km. In winter conditions the drive takes roughly 4 hours each way, with one comfort stop along the route. A private vehicle runs on your schedule — no waiting for connections.

Your options: bus, flight or private transfer

You can travel by public coach, by a short domestic flight into Ivalo (IVL), or by private transfer. The coach is cheapest per person but runs to a fixed timetable with luggage limits and shared stops. Flights are fast but add airport time at both ends.
