Santa Claus Village is Rovaniemi's most famous attraction, but a little planning makes the visit far smoother. Here's what to know before you go.
It's free to enter — but activities aren't
The village itself is free and open year-round. Meeting Santa is free too, but the official photo, plus rides, huskies, reindeer, SnowPark and Santa's premium experiences, all cost extra. Budget accordingly.
Opening hours
The village grounds are always open; shops, cafés and Santa's office follow seasonal hours — broadly around 10am–5pm, extended in the December peak. Always check current times before you go.
How long to spend
Allow at least half a day to meet Santa, cross the Arctic Circle, visit the Post Office and enjoy a few activities. Families with children could easily spend a full day.
Getting there
It's 8 km north of central Rovaniemi, next to the airport. Take local bus 8, drive, or book a guided Santa Claus Village tour with hotel pickup.
Insider tips
- Visit early to beat coach-tour crowds, especially in December.
- Dress warmly — it's an outdoor attraction.
- Send a postcard from the Arctic Circle Post Office (a cheap, memorable souvenir).
- Combine it with an evening aurora tour.
