If husky sledding is the thrill, the reindeer safari is the soul of Lapland — a slow, silent sleigh ride through snow-draped forest, steeped in the culture of the indigenous Sami reindeer herders.
What to expect
Wrapped in warm blankets and furs, you glide through the forest behind a calm reindeer, with only the creak of the sleigh and the soft crunch of snow. Many safaris end at a traditional lávvu (tipi) with a campfire and hot berry juice.
Sami culture
Reindeer herding has sustained the Sami people for centuries. A good safari includes stories about herding life, and often a chance to feed the reindeer and receive your own "reindeer driving licence."
Perfect for families and couples
There's no minimum age, no exertion and no experience required — making it ideal for young children, grandparents and honeymooners alike. See our family guide.
When to go
Reindeer safaris run through the winter snow season. On evening rides you may even catch the aurora — combine with a dedicated Northern Lights tour for the best chance.
