Where you base yourself shapes your whole Rovaniemi trip. The good news: the city is compact and tour pickups are widely available, so most areas work well. Here's how to choose.
City centre
Best for first-timers and those without a car. You're walking distance from restaurants, the Arktikum and shops, with easy tour pickups and bus links to Santa Claus Village. The most convenient all-round base.
Santa Claus Village
Great for families who want Santa on the doorstep and to wake up on the Arctic Circle. There are cabins, hotels and glass igloos here, though it's quieter in the evenings and 8 km from the city.
Wilderness resorts
Resorts just outside the city offer glass igloos, aurora cabins and on-site activities in a darker, more scenic setting — ideal for a splurge or honeymoon.
Accommodation types
- Hotels — reliable and central.
- Cabins — cosy and private, great for families.
- Glass igloos / aurora cabins — the bucket-list splurge.
- SnowHotel — a one-night novelty (see our SnowHotel guide).
